The Saphir white welt brush is designed for removing dirt and applying leather care products to shoe welt stitching.
The Saphir white welt brush is designed for reaching the very narrow welt stitching area – a high-end feature of Goodyear shoes aimed at maximising shoe life. The welt is a structural feature of the particular shoe in which the outer part is visible and is sewn with a waxed thread that may get damaged. Since a well-nourished welt stitching increases the life of your Goodyear shoes, the Saphir welt brush helps you get to this precise spot. The stiffness and denseness of the boar bristles remove dirt when the shoe is brushed vigorously. With only three rows of bristles, the brush helps you reach the long and very narrow areas in one stroke, which is particularly efficient for the welt area and for cleaning the edges of your leather shoes. The small handle of the Saphir welt brush makes for an easy grip and the finger grooves allow you to vigorously rub the welt.
You may wish to use this brush to remove dirt from the welt area or for other hard-to-reach spots such as brogue perforations or the eyelets, but a simple shoe cleaning brush will do the job just as well. We advise that you reserve the welt brush for applying Dubbin grease, which is specially designed to nourish stuffed leather as well as the waxed stitching on Goodyear shoes. Lightly tap your welt brush to remove a bit of the grease and apply all around the welt to deeply nourish the waxed stitching. Make sure to rub the welt well using the welt brush so that the grease can penetrate the leather. Pay special attention to the front tip of the shoe as it is very fragile and sensitive to impact marks. The welt brush helps you complete the most important part of Goodyear shoe care by preventing the waxed stitching from drying out, which can in turn break the thread and cause the shoe's upper and sole to come loose. The welt brush is designed to be thin enough to reach only this very specific spot, without getting the grease on the shoe's upper since the leather there is smooth and will become overly supple if treated with this grease.
