The yellow base Teinture Francaise shoe dye by Saphir (500ml) colours smooth leather, suede or nubuck items and helps you create a patina.
The Saphir shoe dye is a primary yellow base colour that can be mixed with other dyes to colour your leather articles, accessories, shoes or even large items such as a leather sofa. Mixing this yellow primary colour with other shades helps you to come up with a unique colour for your leather item. Each bottle of dye with a primary colour comes with a Saphir colour mixing guide to help you create with your own personalised shade.
The yellow base dye can be used on a leather surface for normal dyeing, or mixed with other dyes. Ideally, this dye should be applied to raw leather to colour it yellow, but you can also use it on leather that has had its colour removed in preparation for dyeing. Remember however, that colour removal is very harsh on leather. Dab the Saphir leather dye on areas that have lost their colour due to scuffs or friction. This will restore the new look of the leather. Use the Saphir dye in a well-ventilated area and protect your skin, clothing and any valuable objects likely to get stained. Always test a bit of the dye on a hidden area to determine whether it produces the colour you want. If you are satisfied with the results, apply an even first coat of the yellow dye and allow it to dry for at least one hour to assess the true colour. It is perfectly normal to apply several coats of dye to obtain the desired colour. Bear in mind however, that the drying time of at least one hour is required between each coat. Once you are satisfied with the final colour, you will need to proceed with a full leather care treatment to nourish the leather and enhance its new colour. A shoe cream will enhance the colour or patina while softening the leather. You may also wish to complete the process with a shoe polish as the beeswax contained therein will waterproof and shine the leather.
Always close the bottle of Saphir shoe dye tightly so that you can continue to use the product on your leather items.
