The base blue Teinture Francaise shoe dye by Saphir (50ml) colours leather, suede and nubuck to create a patina or dye a pair of shoes.
The Teinture Francaise base blue shoe dye creates a patina on your leather shoes or on any small leather item in general. The base blue colour is perfect for any blue patina and creates a gorgeous contrast on your shoes when mixed with other dye shades. The dye is sold in a set that includes a pair of latex gloves to protect your hands, an cotton wick applicator and a colour mixing guide to help you create your own unique shoe colour.
Use this Saphir Teinture Francaise royal blue shoe dye only on leather that has been cleaned or that has had its colour removed. As the general rule, the lighter the colour the leather, the more possibilities you have for creating a patina. This dye can also be used for the occasional recolouring of discoloured spots on leather caused by friction or impact. Begin by applying an even first coat of the dye after having tested it on a hidden area such as the shoe tongue, to determine whether it produces the colour you want. Allow the first coat to dry for at least one hour. If you are not satisfied with the results, apply a second coat, bearing in mind that the patina colour will intensify as you apply more coats. Once the desired colour is achieved, proceed with a full leather care treatment. The colour removal process is harsh on the leather and causes it to dry out. Consequently, the leather needs to be treated with a shoe cream to soften and hydrate it. The shoe cream nourishes and slightly recolours the leather to enhance your new patina. Complete the process with a shoe polish to waterproof the leather and give it a shine. Always handle this leather dye with care and use in a well-ventilated area as it is very strong.
Carefully close the bottle cap of your shoe dye for easy re-opening later on, and store the dye away from sources of heat.
