The brown Teinture Francaise shoe dye by Saphir (50ml) is ideal for colouring leather, nubuck and suede, or for creating a patina.
This Teinture Francaise shoe dye recolours your brown leather shoes and can also be used to create a patina effect. It is ideal for recolouring shoes and small leather accessories including handbags and wallets. The Saphir Teinture Francaise is a favourite among shoemakers for its user-friendliness and it opens up a world of possibilities for personalising leather items. The dye comes in a 50ml bottle and is sold in a set that includes a pair of latex gloves and a cotton wick applicator.
Use the Saphir Teinture Francaise dye in a well-ventilated area and cover any valuable objects to prevent them from getting stained. For best results, the dye should only be applied to leather that has been cleaned or that has had its colour removed. This will prevent dust particles from clogging the pores of the leather. The dye can be used to recolour small areas where the leather has been scratched. However, the dye is can recolour the entire surface of a leather item or create a patina that imitates aged leather. When treating large surfaces, we strongly recommend testing a bit of the dye on a hidden area to determine whether it produces the colour you want. If you are satisfied with the results, apply a thin and even first coat over the entire surface of the shoe and allow it to dry for at least one hour. If the colour is not intense enough after an hour, you can always add other coats to deepen the brown shade, but be mindful of the one-hour drying time required after each coat. Once you are satisfied with the overall results, you will need to use a shoe cream to nourish and soften the leather. Opt for a neutral shoe cream to preserve the newly dyed colour, or a darker brown shoe cream of you wish to intensify the hue. Complete the process with a shoe polish to waterproof and shine the leather.
Store your Teinture Francaise shoe dye in a cool, dry place and tightly close the cap to ensure proper conservation.
