The lightening base Teinture Francaise shoe dye by Saphir (50ml) lightens the colour of any Saphir liquid dye for smooth leather, suede or nubuck.
This lightening base shoe dye is intended to be mixed with your other dye colours when they are too dark. It should never be applied alone to the leather during the dyeing process. This Teinture Francaise leather dye is a favourite among lovers of fine leather items who want to give a personal touch to their leather shoes, wallets, belts or bags. The dye is sold in a set that includes a pair of latex gloves, and a cotton wick applicator.
We recommend using this lightening base shoe dye only on leather that has already been washed with a leather cleaner. If you are dyeing leather that has been colour-stripped, there is no need to apply a leather cleaner as this will cause excessive drying. This shoe dye is made solely for the purpose of mixing with other dyes and must never be applied directly to leather. To lighten a leather colour, you must first remove its colour. Keep in mind however that colour removal is a harsh process that could permanently alter the appearance of leather. The lightening base must therefore be mixed with a dye that is too dark, before being applied. As with all other dyes, you can apply the mixture on faded-out areas using a rubbing action to restore the beauty of the leather, or to change its colour altogether. Always remember to test the dye beforehand on a section of the leather to get an idea of the final result since leather can react differently to dye from one item to another. Also ensure that your working area is well-ventilated. Once you are satisfied with the colour of your dye, apply a fine and even coat over the entire surface and allow it to dry for at least one hour. You may then wish to apply several layers in order to obtain a livelier colour, but be mindful of the one-hour drying time required after each coat. When the desired colour is obtained, you should proceed with a full leather care treatment. This is an important stage because the leather will need nourishing after it has been dyed in order to preserve its beauty. You can proceed with a neutral shoe cream if you have obtained the desired colour, or a tinted shoe cream if you want a deeper patina hue. For shoes and small leather accessories, you can complete the care treatment by applying a shoe polish to shine and waterproof the leather.
Store your Saphir Teinture Francaise lightening base shoe dye in a cool, dry place to ensure a long shelf life, and remember to tightly close the bottle cap.
